For over 15 years, I have worked inside private homes across Ballarat.
What began as professional home support evolved into something deeper — an understanding of routine, dignity, privacy and the importance of emotional safety within someone’s personal space.
Over the years, I have worked alongside individuals and families navigating a range of life circumstances, including clients living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Down syndrome, acquired brain injury (ABI), stroke recovery and schizophrenia.
While my early work was centred around home support and cleaning, the experience shaped the foundation of how I approach independent support today.
What Working Inside Private Homes Teaches You
When you work inside someone’s home, you learn things that no certificate alone can teach.
You learn:
• How routine impacts emotional regulation
• How environment affects wellbeing
• How small disruptions can create stress
• How trust is built slowly, through consistency
• How to work quietly and respectfully in vulnerable spaces
A home is not just a building. It is where people feel safe — or unsafe.
Understanding that changes how you show up.
Supporting Clients Living with Disability
Working with clients living with MS, Down syndrome, ABI, stroke recovery and schizophrenia taught me something invaluable:
Support is not about control. It is about steadiness.
Each person requires:
• Patience
• Clear communication
• Calm energy
• Structured routine
• Respect for independence
I learned to adapt to different needs while maintaining consistency — something many people living with disability value deeply.
Why Cleaning Experience Matters in Support Work
Some people underestimate the skill involved in working privately inside homes.
But home-based work develops:
• Observation skills
• Emotional awareness
• Professional boundaries
• Discretion
• Reliability
• Long-term relationship building
When you have been trusted inside someone’s personal environment for years, you understand the responsibility that comes with it.
That experience naturally evolved into independent support work.
The Foundation of Ballarat Independent Support
Ballarat Independent Support is built on:
• Consistency
• Long-term partnership
• Calm, structured support
• Emotional safety
• Respect inside the home
After 15 years inside private homes, I understand how important stability is — particularly for individuals living with disability.
Trust is not built through rotating rosters. It is built through presence.
That is what I offer.
If you are in Ballarat and value consistent, respectful and structured independent support, I am currently accepting a small number of long-term participants.
Stability changes everything.
